
Transito Amaguaña
Transito Amaguaña was an ecuadorian indigenous activist woman from Cayambe. She fought for equal rights. In 1936 and 1937 the indigenous achieved the “ley de comunas” and in 1944 the president, Velazco Ibarra, officially recognizes indigenous organizations.
in 1946 Transito and another indigenous activist woman called Dolores Cacuango, formed the first bilingual schools (kichwa-spanish) with the help of Luisa Gómez de la Torre.
